The Divine Wedding of Shiva and Parvati
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is associated with a sacred legend that connects it to the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The mythological story behind the Triyuginarayan Temple is known as the "Divine Wedding of Shiva and Parvati."
In ancient times, Lord Shiva, the supreme deity of destruction and asceticism, was deep in meditation in the Himalayas. At the same time, Goddess Parvati, the divine consort of Shiva, expressed her deep devotion and love for him. Parvati, in her determination to win Shiva's heart, decided to undertake severe penance.
Pleased with Parvati's devotion and determination, Lord Shiva decided to test her love. He took the form of a young hermit and appeared before Parvati. Shiva, disguised as the hermit, told Parvati that if she truly wished to marry him, she should find him in his original form.
Undeterred by the challenge, Parvati continued her penance and meditation. Eventually, Lord Shiva, impressed by her unwavering devotion, revealed his true form to her. The divine couple decided to marry, and their celestial wedding took place at Triyuginarayan, which means "the sacred fire of the three Yugas (ages)."
The Eternal Flame
The Triyuginarayan Temple is believed to be the exact spot where the divine wedding occurred. The temple is situated near a natural eternal flame that has been burning continuously for centuries. According to legend, Lord Brahma himself attended the wedding ceremony and lit the sacred fire at Triyuginarayan, which continues to burn to this day.
The eternal flame symbolizes the sanctity and eternity of the marital bond between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Pilgrims and devotees visit the temple to witness this divine site and seek blessings for marital harmony and longevity.
The wedding rituals of Shiva and Parvati at Triyuginarayan are also considered symbolic, and it is believed that couples who marry in the temple are blessed with a strong and everlasting bond.
This mythological story has made Triyuginarayan a revered pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva and those seeking the blessings of a harmonious and enduring marriage.
